چکیده

It has been suggested that fumes from diesel engines make an important contribution to atmospheric pollution. This is probably because they are sometimes highly irritant and sometimes very smoky. It is well known that, because of their comparatively low carbon monoxide content, these fumes are much less lethal than those from petrol engines. The leading work on diesel fumes has been done by the U.S. Bureau of Mines. Holtz, Berger, Elliott, and Schrenk (1940) analysed the fumes from engines in proper mechanical conditions, plotting the carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and aldehyde content against fuel-air ratio. The present work was directed to ascertaining what were the main toxic constituents of diesel fumes. In order to do this animals were exposed to the fumes and at the same time the concentration of various constituents of the fumes was determined; pathological investigations were subsequently carried out on the exposed animals. In this paper nitric oxide is designated NO, and nitrogen dioxide NO2. For conversion of parts per million to mg./m3 factors valid at 20°C. have been used.

Emission Performance of a Diesel Engine Running on Biodiesel Fuel at Different Compression Ratios

In the present study emission performance of a diesel engine (Lister Petter) was evaluated at different compression ratios and engine loads with soybean methyl ester and its 25%, 50%, 75% blends with diesel fuel at constant speed 1500 rpm. Exhaust emissions included CO, CO2, HC and NOx. The compression ratio and engine load varied from 14 to 20 with an interval 1 and 25 to...

Energy and Exergy Analyses of a Diesel Engine Running on Biodiesel Fuel

Availability analysis is an effective approach to studying energy conversion in systems and identifying inefficiency. In the present study, a single-zone model was used to examine energy performance parameters and heat release rates. The governing equation of availability analysis was applied in the model, and the possibility of using biodiesel produced from sunflower oil as diesel engine was i...

Combustion Characteristics of CI Engine Running with Biodiesel Blends

Biodiesel is one of the promising renewable, alternative and environmentally friendly biofuels that can be used in diesel engine with little or no modification in the engine. In the present study an experimental investigation has been carried out on the combustion and performance characteristics of a CI engine running with biodiesel under steady state operating conditions. The experimental work...

Deviation Analysis and Failure Diagnosis of Diesel Engine

A computer-based filling and emptying diesel engine simulation model has been developed, which can simulate the operational behavior of diesel engine under different performance failures and different running conditions. This paper firstly describes the simulation models and simulated results of a fourstroke, turbo-charged diesel engine. The calculated results in terms of relative deviation are...

Dual-Fuelling of a Direct-Injection Automotive Diesel Engine by Diesel-Gas Method

Use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in compression-ignition (C-I) engines has always been considered important in the diesel engineering field. This is due to its easy accessibility and good combustion characteristics. In this paper the application of LPG fuel along with diesel oil in a direct- injection automotive diesel engine is experimentally investigated. In order to convert the pure dies...
